Successful handover by the contractor at the Buda Health Centre!

I am pleased to inform you that, with significant professional support from SMP Solutions Zrt., amongst others, the Buda Health Centre and the National Spinal Medicine Centre – which operates as a specialist hospital – at 1–3 Királyhágó Street, has been completed, including the external and internal refurbishment and modernisation of Buildings ‘A’ and ‘B’! Following this comprehensive refurbishment, the BEK moved back from its temporary premises to the Királyhágó utca complex after nearly one and a half years.

A milestone in hospital development

The site, covering approximately 2.6 hectares and affected by the development, is situated in a densely built-up urban environment. The site, which also features significant green space, is bordered by Alkotás Street to the east, Királyhágó Street to the south, and residential buildings to the north and west.

As part of the project, the new hospital complex will be built as an extension to the existing ‘A’ and ‘B’ wings, comprising a new building designated ‘C’ (3 car park levels + ground floor + 4 storeys). Building ‘A’ has 7 storeys and a floor area of 8,273 m², whilst Building ‘B’ has 4 storeys and a floor area of 3,056 m².

Building A-B therefore has a total of 7 operating theatres, 80 wards and 150 beds.

During the refurbishment, the standard of comfort in the wards was improved (air conditioning, private bathrooms), new doctors’ rooms were created, and four operating theatres were refurbished, making them suitable for the use of state-of-the-art technology.

Last but not least, the communal areas have been refurbished and energy efficiency improvements (thermal insulation, windows and doors, building services) have been carried out in the spirit of sustainability.

The tasks and challenges facing SMP Solutions Zrt.

From January 2025 to April 2026, our design, preparation and construction teams carried out a near-complete low-voltage refurbishment of the existing Building A and Building B wings, which are nearly 100 and 50 years old respectively. As a result of our colleagues’ dedicated work, the buildings were successfully handed over in technical terms and transferred into our possession – in several phases – by May 2026.

One of the greatest challenges of the project was that the refurbishment work had to be carried out whilst the healthcare facility remained partially operational and continued to provide services. In parallel with the architectural and mechanical engineering works, a comprehensive modernisation and installation of the complex low-voltage systems was carried out.

Low-current systems implemented:

  • IT system (passive and active): 10 rack cabinets, 93 km of Corning Cat6A copper cabling, 2,400 m of fibre-optic cable, nearly 1,500 endpoints, D-Link/Cisco active devices
  • Coaxial network: 80 endpoints
  • Access Control and Intrusion Detection System: ATS Advanced System with C4 graphical monitoring
  • CCTV system: IP-based Hikvision system comprising 129 cameras and 3 network IP recorders.
  • Nurse call system: 245 call points throughout the building
  • Audiovisual system: Public address system for building information
  • Underground network: a route comprising 20 N1 and 4 Jet-vill manholes and protective conduits, including earthworks, which provides low-voltage connections between the buildings.
  • Fire alarm system: Following consultations with the relevant authorities, a new fire alarm system has been installed throughout the entire area of Buildings A and B.

The successful handover of the fire alarm system to the authorities in May 2026 was a milestone of outstanding significance for both the Client and the Contractors.

Continued – Building C

The project did not end there: in the next phase, the construction of the entirely new, eight-storey ‘C’ wing will be completed by spring 2027. SMP’s task in this building is also to install the complete low-voltage system, which will be supplemented by:

  • the three-storey underground car park’s parking system, CO detection system,
  • Emergency public address system,
  • as well as the implementation of the EDR system.
