Report rationalization & migration

Overview

Before introducing a new system or migrating platforms, existing reports must also be sorted out; otherwise, incorrect or redundant reports will be carried over into the new environment. We therefore use a decision-based approach to select, consolidate and, where necessary, discontinue them.

Elements of the approach

• A comprehensive inventory of SSRS, Excel and Power BI reports
• Three questions per report: what decision do you support, who makes the decision, and how often?
• Proposal to remove those reports where this cannot be specified
• Consolidation proposal and business validation for the remaining reports
• rebuilding on the target platform, for example using Power BI or Microsoft Fabric
