MOL Campus

SMP Solutions played a key role in the development of the IT infrastructure at MOL Campus by deploying the passive network. The project is a good example of the experience we have gained in implementing IT infrastructure for large-scale, complex buildings.

The challenge

The construction of Hungary’s tallest building posed particular technical and organisational challenges for the implementation of the IT infrastructure. The construction of the passive network had to be continuously co-ordinated with the architectural and other specialist works, as once individual structural elements had been sealed off, certain cable routes would no longer be accessible, or only with significant additional work. As SMP Solutions’s specific role on this project was the installation of the passive IT network, close and ongoing cooperation with the subcontractors responsible for the associated systems was also required.

Implementation

Throughout the construction phase, we ensured continuous on-site supervision and day-to-day coordination, paying particular attention to the mechanical protection of the cables already in place. To ensure precise coordination between the various trades, our team utilised the building’s 3D as-built model in practice: this was the first project of ours where the BIM model became an integral part of day-to-day construction work and coordination. Our rapid mastery of this new methodology enabled us to adapt effectively to the unique architectural environment and the constantly changing on-site conditions.

What we’re proud of

As part of the MOL Campus’s passive IT network, we installed around 12,000 endpoints and successfully handed over the system in line with the project schedule. The project is a good example of the adaptability of SMP Solutions: our team quickly learnt and put into practice new working methods that were required due to the unique architectural and construction environment. The BIM-based construction experience gained here has become a body of knowledge that we can utilise in our future complex projects.
